The Colorado Energy & Carbon Management Commission (CECMC) has completed its technical review of four additional helium wells located at Blue Star Helium’s Colorado-based Voyager project.

Pending final approval of the wells, which is expected in November 2023, Blue Star Helium will have six wells clear for drilling. There are a further 14 wells currently planned for full development optionality.

Voyager is located six miles from the Model Dome analogue production, which produces a similar high helium gas composition, averaging 8% concentration.

First output from the Voyager facility in expected in the fourth quarter 2024.

IACX Energy has been selected as Blue Star Helium’s mid-stream services provider. The Texas-based company has said the leased and operated Voyager helium recovery unit remains on track for delivery in Q4 2023.

Plant permitting and long lead items are progressing in-line with the scheduled delivery of the IACX plant.

News of the technical review follows the news of Blue Star Helium upgrading its development well design, incorporating insights gained from neighbouring drilling activities in a bid to optimise production.

The helium exploration and production company’s decision to enhance the well design was the result of careful consideration of engineering advice and insights into flow modelling and pressure draw-down considerations.
